Between the author's sweet, simple, slyly funny narrative and the artist's clever, engaging use of personality and detail (like the image on a sardine can, which proves quite important), it's the irresistible tale of a solitary rat who, against all reason, comes to the rescue of a young owl in trouble. "Make the good and noble choice!" advises the Sardine King, and it leads to a beautiful friendship as predator-species and prey-species animals bond over a love for storytelling.
