Kathy Whitehead
Kathy Whitehead first saw Clementine Hunter's work many years before writing about her. She was drawn to the paintings because of their vibrant storytelling and energy. Then, on a visit to Natchitoches, Louisiana, and Melrose Plantation, she was impressed by Hunter's passion and determination to create art and the joy she found in her everyday life and surroundings. A former elementary teacher, Kathy is an active member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. She lives in College Station, Texas.
