In a letter, E.B. White (author of Charlotte's Web) wrote:
A library is a good place to go when you feel unhappy, for there, in a book, you may find encouragement and comfort. A library is a good place to go when you feel bewildered or undecided, for there, in a book, you may have your question answered. Books are good company, in sad times and happy times, for books are people - people who have managed to stay alive by hiding between the covers of a book.
We searched our own shelves and gathered some volumes we turn to for comfort in our own private reading. We would also recommend any of the titles on our Heartwarming Stories to Read Aloud list but these are some titles written more with an adult reader in mind. It is our hope these books will bring you comfort on days when you need a warm friend.
To those who believe what you read is just as important as reading itself, Biblioguides gives you the resources and tools to discover the right book for the right person at the right moment.
