The air had that special nip in it.  The mice of Brambly Hedge forecast snow.

And they were right.  The following morning they awoke to find their doors and windows hidden behind deep drifts.  There hadn't been snow like this for years.

"There's enough for a Snow Ball!" cried the mice with glee, and set to work in the time-honored way to prepare an Ice Hall for the festivities.

"What's a Snow Ball?" asked the little mice, watching all the activity around them with wide open eyes.

At last everything was ready, and the Ball could begin...
