Here is a beautifully written story all juniors will love, the work of a gifted author of charming books for children. And the superb illustrations by Robert G. Doares match her live, warm style.
David, young son of a missionary doctor, finds that life is different when his older brother goes back to England to boarding school. Now he must make his own decisions when he plays with his friend Waffi. Willful mischievous Waffi entices him into trouble at first, but David learns the hard way what it means for sons of God to 'shine as lights in the world."
The two become three when David and Waffi find sick little servant girl Lela and bring her to the hospital.
A fascinating story develops when the boys, swimming at the beach, discover a mysterious boat chained to the rocks and, in the events that follow, Lela is evicted from her master's house. Then David's mother has a secret, and he is faced with some of the first problems involved in growing up.
Here is thrilling adventure with a message of permanent value—a book which is a delight to read.
