Young Sir Robert (Rubin) Wakefield, badgered by his spinster aunts and disagreeable tutor, too his puppy, Ruff, and ran away to London and found himself in the crowd milling around the Theatre where one of Mr. Shakespeare's plays was being presented.
Robin went home with the great actor, John Heminges, to the suburban cottage where Mrs. Heminges and the Heminges children soon made him feel that here was all the home he ever wanted. More than that, Robin learned to play small parts, to make himself generally useful around the theatre. There were many adventures and the winter was a wonderful one. Then catastrophe struck. The Theatre's land lease expired and the building was to be demolished. In honor there seemed nothing left for Robin but to return to his aunts. But a year makes a difference, and Robin, returning on a prancing steed, took on all the importance of a hero-knight. The tutor was gone, the aunts rejoiced, and Robin promised them a theatre treat in London when the season opened again. An engaging young hero in a beautifully written story.
