In the ancient city of Krakow stands a tower where every hour a trumpeter plays an ancient hymn. Joseph, the hero of this tale of fifteenth century Poland acts for a time as this trumpeter. His adventures in the city are many and all are connected in one way or another with a mysterious crystal of great value and beauty which has been in the possession of his family for generations.
Readers who love the color and romance of the early Renaissance as well as adventure and mystery, will find in this story all that they like best. Mr. Kelly's knowledge of Poland and its history is far reaching and the descriptions he gives of that interesting country are as accurate as they are picturesque.
The illustrations in color and black and white have been made by a Polish artist, in Poland at the very scenes of the story.
