On returning to her native Norway after the war, Solveig Strand finds that the evils of Nazi influence still linger in the little village of Helsing. To her horror she learns that several members of her own scattered family have come under suspicion as collaborationists. And so, braving the contempt and active resentment of the whole village, Solveig determines to resolve the mystery surrounding the activities of her family so that they may all return home honorably.
The story of her courage and resource in the exciting and bewildering adventures which follow is told here against the background of a small community struggling to rebuild its shattered life after the devastations of a bitter war.
