This stirring story dramatically involves a courageous Aquitanian boy, Hugh of Abbey St. Simon, in the exciting events that followed a wholesale invasion of France by the Saracens during the eighth century.
Hugh befriended a runaway Saracen battle charger. Later, astride the steed, he fled a prison camp, carrying a momentous message to Charles of the Franks, Christendom's defender. Then, because of his mastery of the horse, Hugh was chosen to play a vital role in the famous decisive Battle of Tours.
That the invasion and its culminating conflict provided all the elements for a thrilling adventure tale occurred to the author when he visited the area and absorbed its history several years ago. The urge to write the story grew during two subsequent visits. Finally THE SARACEN STEED came galloping forth, to the enrichment of lucky young readers' knowledge of history and their certain thrilled delight in a horse story that is different.
