In 1620 a small group of brave men, women, and children set out in a small sailing ship from England. They called themselves Pilgrims. Because they could not worship freely in England, they sailed for two months across a raging sea to a new world where they hoped they could live as they wished.
This is the story of their thrip and their struggle to establish a home in Plymouth—in a fertile but also harsh and frightening new land. It is the story of their difficult first year in the New World, of their building and planting and of their first harvest and first Thanksgiving.
Leonard Weisgard's beautifully authentic text and illustrations reflect his enthusiasm for the subject and also show his careful research which is based on the diary of William Bradford, one of the Pilgrim leaders.
