A vivid and authentic story of an English boy's life and adventure in the year 1200.
Martin, son of a poor Knight, is invited to live in the Castle. Baron Eric disappears and his gloomy cousin, Basil, takes over the Barony. Because he had saved Basil's life in a bear hunt, Martin is promoted from Page to Squire and given charge of most of the domain. He protects the poor against the tyranny of the archers, and is able to improve in many ways the management of the Barony. Eventually the mystery of the Castle is revealed.
