Told against the background of the Colorado Rockies, this picture book brings back to readers the lovable young Judy and Johnny. They are now Junior Forest Rangers. As they ride their donkeys through a beautiful pine forest, they detect the beginnings of what can become a dangerous forest fire.
The children are alert to the danger, and hurry to notify Mr Lee, the nearest Forest Ranger. They reach him in time to save the pine forest from being destroyed, and receive a wonderful reward.
In her second book Miss Patton portrays with genuine perception just what beginning readers most enjoy. This story is set in easy-to-read Manuscript type, and is filled with appealing pictures in color and black and white from cover to cover. It is pointed to pre-school, first, and second grade reading levels.
The author-artist first introduced Judy and Johnny to their large circle of friends in her first book, THE LITTLE RIVER OF GOLD. It is a tale of how the children learn the true meaning of the pot of gold at the the end of a rainbow.
