Book Guide

This picture story tells all about Mr. Small and his little red auto—how he keeps it shining, how he rides out in it, how he fills it with gas, how he stops for red light signs, how he parks it—in fact it tells everything about a little auto that very young boys and girls want to know.

Lois Lenski has made a number of picture books for little boys and girls, but not any that will enjoy more than THE LITTLE AUTO.

Plumfield and Paideia

The Little Auto
Reviewed by Diane Pendergraft
Lenski said she got the idea for the “Small” books by watching her young son play with his toy trucks and airplanes. She realized he wasn’t imagining the vehicles as characters, but rather, that he was seeing himself as the driver or pilot. These simple little books are for your youngest listeners. Children will be drawn into the delight of words as they associate them with everyday activities.
