Once there was a lion who lived in the zoo of a little French town. Everyone came to see him and brought him tidbits to eat. They always called gaily, "Bonjour, Happy Lion." And every morning François, the keepers son, stopped to visit him on the way to school. The lion was very happy indeed.
But one day the keeper forgot to lock the door of the lion's house.
"Hmm," thought the happy lion. "I don't like that. Anyone might walk in. On the other hand, perhaps I'll walk out and see my friends in town."
So down the main street he strolled, nodding politely to all he met. But instead of answering positively, Madame Pinson, Monsieur Dupont, in fact everyone in the street, began to run into stores and houses and doorways. The happy lion was hurt and puzzled. He sat down to think it over.
Then, just as he thought he had lost all his friends, he heard a cheery voice saying: "Bonjour, Happy Lion!" Can you guess who it was?
Boys and girls will love this irresistible picture book.
