“Oh, how fancy!” Miss Teaberry says when her cat finds a golden locket under the apple tree. She spends the whole day trying it on with different dresses instead of weeding her zinnias, and the whole night lying awake hoping a robber won't break in and steal it. “This locket is nothing but a bother,” Miss Teaberry decides, so she gives it away, only to receive three squirming puppies in return! She gives the puppies away—and a squawking parrot arrives. She gives the parrot away — and a dapple-gray horse turns up. Every day brings something new, and Miss Teaberry wonders if she'll ever get a good night’s sleep again, let alone get her zinnias weeded!
