IN THIS imaginative tale of why the Easter Rabbit offers his basket of eggs on Easter morning, the heart is touched by the gentle, loving relationship of Brother Francis of Assisi to animals and nature. The story goes back to the time when Brother Francis visited a sunny island in the middle of an Italian lake where only small animals lived, to commune with God and nature during the days before Easter. His constant companion was a little rabbit whom he names Brother Twitching-lip.
How Brother Twitching-lip expressed the love of all the animals for Brother Francis, and so became the first Easter Rabbit, makes a warmly appealing story to charm and delight children and all who read it to them.
