The word ran like wildfire through all the Shawnee towns -- a great army of white soldiers was marching into Ohio country. The Shawnee warriors prepared for battle. Young Tecumseh fought bravely in the long and bloody war that finally forced his people to flee and hide deep in the forest.
Angered by the loss of his homeland, Tecumseh vowed revenge. He dreamed of a strong, united Indian nation and journeyed all through the Indian territory, urging tribes to band together against the white man.
By joining forces with the British in the War of 1812, the Indians hoped to win back their lands. With the aid of 700 Indian braves, the British stormed the American garrison at Ft. Meigs. In the wild battle, Tecumseh was shot and killed. His dream of a proud, free Indian nation had ended forever.
Through this story of Tecumseh, a leader who stood for what he believe in, people of all races, creeds, and colors will understand each other better.
