Here is a collection of heartwarming Christmas stories in the true spirit of Christmas. Some of them may be familiar to you, but I think many of them will be new. l opened the volume with Kate Douglas Wiggin's The Birds' Christmas Carol, a story of compassion and the love of a little girl who is dying. The dying part was just part of the times. It's a cheesy story by modern standards and very predictable, but I found myself sitting at my desk and weeping when I finished reading it. The original story was written to raise money for underprivileged children and was a profound success. Its charm has endured now for over 100 years. Next, I included a Santa Claus story, but not the commercial Santa Claus. My adult children took turns reading this on Christmas Eve several years ago and we were all so drawn into the story, none of us wanted to open presents in the morning until we finished reading it. It's truly a story of love. In fact, love is the dominant theme of all the Christmas stories in this book and are likely to become longstanding Christmas favorites.
