As a child, Squanto longed for adventure. When he saw strange men on the beach near his Massachusetts home, he made friends with them. This meeting changed the course of his life. Squanto experienced treachery and adventure and he saw England, Spain and Newfoundland.
Soon after his return to Massachusetts, the Pilgrims came. His first thought was to repay the English for their kindness to him. He taught them to fish and hunt, to plant and harvest. He became their interpreter ad protector. Without him, they might not have survived.
His life was not easy. Once he was kidnapped by a brutal sea captain and sold as a slave. But his life was a rich, rewarding one, full of the adventure for which he had longed.
