The four Melkerson children were a little bit worried the day they arrived on Seacrow Island. After all, their impractical father had rented a cottage for the whole summer without ever having set eyes on it. And a man on the boat had told Pelle, the youngest Melkerson, that the cottage's roof leaked. And here they were getting off the steamer in the pouring rain.
But they needn't have worried. In the spite of the cottage's leaky roof, there were many pleasant surprises in store on the island. For Pelle, who loved all animals, there was Bosun, the most gigantic dog he had ever seen, and his irrepressible owner, Tjorven. For Johan and Niklas there were Teddy and Freddy, who knew all about boats and exploring even though they turned out to be girls. And for nineteen-year-old Malin, the island was the place where she fell in love for the first time. By the end of the summer, all four children and their father knew that Seacrow Island had to remain their home.
The author of the Pippi Longstocking books has created another memorable story of a lively Swedish family and a most enchanting island.
