It was not really a park in any proper sense of the word, but it was big enough for Timothy Toomey and the other children on the block, not to mention Tony's secondhand merry-go-round with Christopher Columbus Lindbergh, the red, white and blue horse; Mrs. Soloman and her baby carriage full of pretzels; "Pop" and his balloons; Mr. Enricho and his ice cream wagon, and the Black Iron Boy who had been a hitching-post.
One summer day the park seemed to be going. Perhaps it was the Black Iron Boy, perhaps it was Timothy's mid-summer's-eve ride on the merry-go-round; perhaps even the old gentleman passing by had a little to do with it. Anyway, something did happen.
