PETROUCHKA, one of the most popular ballets in the repertory of the Ballet Russe, is considered by many musicians to be Stravinsky's finest work. It was written for a superb company of dancers managed by Serge Diaghileff, and was first given at Paris in 1911.
The colorful pictures and text of this book introduce us to three interesting and now famous puppets—Petrouchka, a Ballerina and a Moor. Petrouchka, of the three, is most endowed with human emotions, and this is the story of what happens when he falls in love with the pretty dancer. Interspersed throughout are the major musical themes.
Here is a charming book which will delight all lovers of ballet.
