In PETER SPIER'S RAIN, the author opens our eyes to the beauty and wonder that accompany even the most ordinary of natural events. RAIN, a wordless picture book, is about two children and a rainstorm. The story, told through a series of enchanting pictures filled with life and movement, begins as dark storm clouds gather above a brother and sister as they play in their backyard. Big fat raindrops begin to fall and the children scurry inside to change into slickers and galoshes. With umbrellas and rain gear, they venture into the downpour to explore their neighborhood.
Splashing through puddles and catching sight of their reflections, ducking under drainpipes, making footprints in the mud, noticing where animals hide, and finding a spider's web metamorphosed by raindrops into strings of jewels, the children play in a world transformed.
But when the wind picks up, they rush home, where it is warm and dry and cozy. And when the children awake the next morning to clear skies and dazzling sunshine, the reader will feel, as they do, how good it is just to be alive.
