Here comes Patrick, with his dog, leaping along to join the Mummers' Parade! The band is playing the song of the Parade—"Golden Slippers"—and all the marchers have lined up in their wonderful costumes.
Patrick is a little late for the Parade. Why? The story tells. Will he make it in his golden shoes? The story tells that, too. It begins quietly, with Patrick sitting on an ash can in a back alley and works up to the gorgeous, colorful Parade, and to the surprise waiting for Patrick.
The Mummers' Parade takes place every New Year's Day in Philadelphia.
