Homeless and hungry after a heavy spring rain, Mousekin searches for a new house. He finds nests that would make a good home, but is chased away by angry birds hatching their eggs. Then he is startled by a large white rabbit whose thumping warns him of a bloodthirsty weasel. Mousekin escapes and explores the woods until at last he finds an abandoned birds' nest. Then he decides to search for his friend, the white rabbit, but he discovers a basket of brightly colored Easter eggs instead. Mousekin is frightened by children on an Easter-egg hunt and he hurries back to his safe new home in the woods. There he sings the cheerful song of a white-footed mouse before falling asleep for the night.
