This book is the result of Lapeer, Michigan's pride in claiming one of this century's foremost creators of children's books, Marguerite de Angeli. It stems from the Lapeer County Historical Society and the Marguerite de Angeli Library's dedication in preserving this literary heritage.
The roots of this pioneer in children's publishing and her connection with her mid-Michigan birthplace reach back even farther than her March 14, 1889 birthdate. Marguerite de Angeli's family was present when Lapeer was a young settlement being carved from the forest and traces of the Loffts and Tuttles are still evident today. This book will chronicle the long and enduring link that has made the world-famous writer and artist Lapeer's own Marguerite de Angeli.
