Ever since Juddie can remember, he has wanted to learn how to read and write. But the nearest school is many miles away; and Pa needs him to help work their Canadian Rockies farm.
Nevertheless, life is full of adventure in the Canadian mountains. One bitterly cold night Juddie makes a hazardous and lonely journey to fetch a doctor for his mother; and another time he rescues Pa, whose leg has been broken in a hunting accident. But it is the dramatic nighttime rescue of the pilot of a lost plane that brings about the happy and satisfying conclusion.
Readers will love this story of life today in the Canadian Rockies and will sympathize warmly with the appealing boy who earns the fulfillment of his dream in a courageous and responsible way. Charles Geer's vivid illustrations lend warmth and authenticity.
