Sweet melodies have always flowed through Itzhak Perlman.
As a baby, he was transformed by the sounds of his family's kitchen radio: graceful classical symphonies, lively klezmer tunes, and soulful cantorial chants. Itzhak loved them all. His favorite: the magical sound of the violin. By age four, Itzhak began playing violin himself. Then, a dangerous bout of polio left him paralyzed. The disease left Itzhak unable to run or jump, but it couldn't destroy his passion to make music. As Itzhak's speedy staccato strokes and playful pizzicato plucking became better and better, he was invited to perform on bigger and bigger stages. Never letting his disability hold him back, Itzhak left his hometown at age thirteen to play on The Ed Sullivan Show in New York City. Today he is widely considered one of the world's greatest violinists.
