Madelon is a gay little Canadian girl of six who lives in a small village up the Saguenay River. Her father is a guide, but her Uncle Paul drives tourists in Tadoussac in his elegant green carriage. When she visits her little cousins in Tadoussac she sings by the roadside for the entertainment of tourists. But her chief delight is to dance, and this she does with such zest that finally one happy night after she has gone to Quebec she dances for the guests at the Château Frontenac, Madelon, in her little red cape, traveling alone by steamer on the Saguenay, and going by sleigh to Quebec, in the new fur coat of the skins of beavers trapped by her father, will be the delight and envy of small girls. Ilse Bischoff's lively drawings are a great enhancement to the text, which is suitable for children of six to ten.
