Book Guide

Flicka, Ricka, and Dicka were three little girls who lived in Sweden. They had blue eyes and yellow curls, and they looked very much alike.

One day, their mother gave them beautiful new dotted dresses to wear. The girls ran off to play, but they soon met Aunt Helma, an old woman who needed some help. Flicka, Ricka, and Dicka worked hard to take care of Aunt Helma's chickens and cow and pig. Then they enjoyed milk and cookies.

It was a happy day, but by the end, the dotted dresses were in a very sorry state!

Originally published in the United States in 1939, Flicka, Ricka, Dicka and the New Dotted Dresses was the first in a series of treasured books created by Swedish author-artist Maj Lindman (1886-1972). She also wrote and illustrated stories about three little Swedish boys, Snipp, Snapp, and Snurr.

Today's young readers will find the warm, wholesome stories of these busy, independent children immensely satisfying.
