Andrew never gave up hope that his father would return from the sea, but the Titcombs believed the captain lost, so when they started north to find a new home in Maine, they took Andrew along with them. They reached the Penobscot and still were not ready to end their long journey, so there they left the tired little boy with the Hallett family to work for his board.
Nearby was a little house on sleds, a strange vehicle which had brought little Sally and her aunts and uncles to Maine and where they were living until their new house was ready. It was not until this family took Andrew into their home that the little boy was happy and then each day brought new and exciting adventures. Sally was a good playmate and together they gathered wild strawberries, played games with the Indian children nearby, watched a wedding and a house-raising, and had an exciting share in the eventful life of this pioneer country.
It was months later that one day a sturdy sea captain strode into town, and when he proved to be Andrew's father, his happiness was complete. He was to be off on a trip soon but he stayed to see FIVE BUSHEL FARM completed; and when he left he took with him not only his son, but one of Sally's aunts as a new mother for Andrew.
A pioneer story of unusual charm and beauty. A sequel and companion volume to the popular AWAY GOES SALLY.
