Book Guide

In our world many things happen again and again. Each day the sun rises and sets, each year brings summer and winter, each autumn birds fly south and in the spring north. All around us there are cycles taking place.

This book describes the most important ones in our life: the living cycles of plants and animals; the changing seasons; the coming of rainy days and sunny days; the transfer of oxygen and carbon dioxide in plants and animals, and other cycles as well.

There are a variety of projects—from watching birds fly away in the fall to keeping aquariums. How we get day and night and the changing of seasons are explained. Readers can plant flowers, collect their seeds and plant new flowers to discover the life cycle. There are ways of condensing water and seeing how it rains and also how water evaporates again.

The readers will discover simple but basic concepts. In addition, they will learn how to observe nature around them, and learn to discover the marvelous world of cycles.

The lively, enjoyable illustrations of Jeanne Bendick accompany the text. They help the reader visualize the ideas presented in the book.

Elementary Living Science Resource
Reviewed by Jennifer Mackintosh
You could certainly read these alongside any other nature or science living books, and there are a wealth of picture books that could be read in one sitting which would be lovely complements to this series...
