Book Guide

Cowboy Small has a horse named Cactus. He takes good care of Cactus and Cactus works hard for him. Together they ride the range, mend fences, ride in roundups, rope calves, and do all the things cowboys really do.

There is no need to stress the interest small boys have in cowboys or the affection they feel for the ever resourceful Mr. Small. He has become a classic figure in literature and readers who knew him as motorist, sailor, aviator, engineer, farmer and fireman will find him as engaging as ever as cowboy.

Plumfield and Paideia

Cowboy Small
Reviewed by Diane Pendergraft
Lenski said she got the idea for the “Small” books by watching her young son play with his toy trucks and airplanes. She realized he wasn’t imagining the vehicles as characters, but rather, that he was seeing himself as the driver or pilot. These simple little books are for your youngest listeners. Children will be drawn into the delight of words as they associate them with everyday activities.
