Two Chippewa lads are captured and carried to the camp of their enemies. By the cunning of a captive Chippewa girl, they escape the pursuit of the Sioux—and their particular enemy, Scarface—and the three youngsters provide themselves with the necessities of hunting, travel and life, make their way through untramped forests, by underground rivers, through demolished and burning villages, back to the shores of Kitchi Gami. Here they arrive in time to warn their tribe of the approaching hordes of battle-made Sioux. The Thunderbird, the divine protector of the Chippewa, saves His people at the last in an extraordinary manner.
