Book Guide

Every day on his way home from school, Camille loved walking through the field of sunflowers. Then one day, a stranger moved into the village—a man with an unusual straw hat and a bright yellow beard. Camille's father noticed that the man was very poor. "Let's try to help him," said Camille's father.

They loaded a cart with pots and pans and furniture for their new friend. Camille decided that he would bring something extra—a bunch of sunflowers freshly picked from the field. Little did Camille realize that these flowers would soon inspire a great work of art.

Based on an actual encounter and real people, this delightful picture book tells how Camille made friends with Vincent van Gogh, a lonely and unknown painter who is now recognized as a great artist.

Beautifully illustrated with the author's delicate watercolors, and reproduction of some of van Gogh's most famous paintings, Camille and the Sunflowers is a charming introduction to one of the world's most popular artists.
