Brian didn't really want to leave all the familiar fun of summer at Happy-Go-Lucky cottage with Mother, even if this summer Father had to be away with the Army. But when bombs began to fall, Brian had to leave England and go to live with friends of his parents in America. On the way over in the Clipper, he was given a beautiful white kitten named Victory, and Victory helped him over the first homesick moments in his new home. Brian soon gained friends in America and learned to like a school that was very different from the school he attended in England. And when Flora came for a visit there were lively times, for Flora was full of ideas. In all that Brian did he remembered his mother's goodbye wish that he would always 'uphold England,' and when the opportunity came he made the greatest sacrifice that he could for his country.
Miss Phillips is the author of "A Name for Obed,' "Peter Peppercorn,' and many other books for young readers.
