On lavender blue days something wonderful always happened to Anna Lavinia, and it was on such a day that her mother told her she was to visit her Aunt Sophia Maria, who lived—no one knew quite where. Anna Lavinia set out the next morning, taking with her a gardenia bush as a present for her aunt and a carpetbag containing several jars of pawpaw jelly which she had helped her mother put up.
On the train she met a friendly fat lady who offered her tiny sandwiches and cakes and gave her a tea cosy in exchange for one of the jars of pawpaw jelly. And that was just the beginning of her remarkable adventures.
Mr. Brown has illustrated his first book with 75 pen and ink drawings.
