Anatole's tenth adventure could well be called The Mystery of the Missing Mice. His dear wife Doucette takes four-and- twenty schoolmice on a picnic. But danger lurks in the woods—Grissac, a heartless man to whom mice are merely subjects for musical experiments! He lures them away by playing his flute, like the Pied Piper of old. Only Doucette is left to tell the tragic news.
Where is Grissac? Can he be tracked down? Like his cousin, Basil of Baker Street, Anatole does detective work, aided by the pigeons of Paris.
Then, clever as ever, the Mouse Magnifique decides to use music to outwit the evil Grissac. Eve Titus has written her most suspenseful Anatolian tale, and Paul Gal- done’s illustrations do full justice to the lively goings-on.
