These stories are all about Alice, a little girl who is ten and who lives in Damariscotta, Maine.
You'll read of Alice's friendship with Raymond, a young Passamaquoddy Indian, of Alice and her playmate Marcia's exciting day at the circus, of a happy family picnic, of the strange powder horn she finds at the junk shop, of an eventful visit to Wiscasset where she sits in a chair that once belonged to Marie Antoinette, of fishing through the ice, of searching for herbs, and countless other delightful everyday adventures of a very appealing, very real little girl.
Through Miss Coatsworth's beautiful writing and Mrs. de Angeli's charming pictures you'll get well acquainted with little Alice—a lively, imaginative, gentle child and also have a clear and interesting picture of that lovely Maine country in which she lives. Elizabeth Coatsworth and her own family spend their summers in this part of New England so she knows Alice's home very well.
