Sara Crewe did indeed seem like a little princess when she arrived at Miss Minchin's boarding school in London. Her father who had brought her from India had bought her all sorts of handsome clothes, she had a French maid, a pony and a beautiful doll, Emily, who was to become her great friend.
When Sara had been in school some time a dramatic change took place in her fortunes and her whole life. She remained, however, a little princess throughout.
This story of Sara Crewe has been a favorite with generations of children. They have delighted in her happiness and wept over her sorrows and have been enchanted by the mysterious events that bring about a second great change in Sara's life.
Tasha Tudor, whose picture for The Secret Garden have been so much loved, has recreated for a whole new generation of readers the London of the last century and Sara, a little princess.
