Book Guide

Jellyfish live in oceans, seas, lakes and ponds all over the world. You may have seen them in the waters where you swim. They don't look like fish at all. They look like floating bags of jelly.

In a clearly written, easy-to-read text John Waters describes the different kinds of jellyfish—some are as big as double beds and weigh hundreds of pounds—their habits, and the dangers of jellyfish like the Portuguese man-of-war and the sea wasp. Kazue Mizumura's luminous watercolor illustrations convey the beauty and fascination of these simple and familiar sea creatures.

A Jellyfish Is Not a Fish
Mizumura's fuzzy washes are neither especially attractive nor clearly informative, which further limits the value of an already unspectacular offering. Optional--perhaps geography will be a determinant in purchase decisions.
