PLEASE LOOK AFTER THIS BEAR. THANK YOU.
It was these words, written on the label round his neck, which made the Brown family decide to take the small brown bear home with them. They met him, incidentally, on Paddington station; he had travelled by himself all the way from Peru, with only a jar of his favourite marmalade to keep him going. The Browns soon found—as the reader will find—that Paddington is a very unusual bear. Although he tries his best to do the right things, he keeps making mistakes and causing confusion. He finds it hard to behave properly on the escalator, for instance, or in smart London shops. But everyone knows he is a very well-meaning bear, and Judy and Johnathan Brown do their best to save him from as many difficult incidents as possible. In spite of this however, Paddington lands himself in enough amusing situations to make a book filled with delightful unexpected episodes. Like Winnie the Pooh and Mary Plain, Paddington is a bear to remember. The author writes in a simple, straightforward style which younger children will find easy to read.
