Roxie Munro
Roxie Munro was raised in the Chesapeake Bay area, and Washington, D.C., is the first large city she knew. She believes its spaciousness and architecture nourished her "enduring fascination for large shapes and strong composition with, nevertheless, a lot of pattern and delicacy," which she finds "so satisfying in man-made structures."
A painter whose work appears in covers of The New Yorker and hangs in private and public collections across the country, Ms. Munro is the creator of The Inside-Outside Book of New York City, chosen by The New York Times as one of the ten best illustrated children's books. About it The Washington Post said, "Munro's line drawings and watercolors are full of detail without being cluttered; they capture the activity of these places, and yet they remain serene." Publishers Weekly said, "Munro deserves thanks for this treasure that her fans will hope is the first of many singular achievements."
The artist lived and worked in Washington, D.C. for ten years before moving to New York City, where she now lives.
