Kwame Alexander
Kwame Alexander is a poet, an educator, and the author of twenty-one books for children and educators, including Acoustic Rooster and His Barnyard Band, Surf's Up, Booked, and the middle-grade novel in verse The Crossover, which was awarded the 2015 Newbery Medal. He served on the advisory board for The 100 Best African American Poems, edited by Nikki Giovanni, and is currently the poet laureate of LitWorld, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the development of youth literacy in the world's most vulnerable communities. Every year he travels to hundred of schools to conduct workshops, read aloud, and share the joy of language and books with the children he meets. Kwame Alexander lives in Virginia with his family.
