Joyce Carol Thomas
Joyce Carol Thomas was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma, and later moved to San Joaquin Valley in California. Honored with the National Book Award for her first novel, MARKED BY FIRE, she is also the editor of A GATHERING OF FLOWERS: Stories About Being Young in America, and the author of WHEN THE NIGHTINGALE SINGS. Currently, she is a professor of English at the University of Tennessee and lives outside Knoxville.
