Barbara Bash
Barbara Bash has writtten and illustrated five award-winning children's titles for Sierra Club Books — Shadows of Night: The Hidden World of the Little Brown Bat, Urban Roosts: Where Birds Nest in the City, and three previous books in the Tree Tales series, Ancient Ones: The World of the Old-Growth Douglas Fir, Tree of Life: The World of the African Baobab, and Desert Giant: The World of the Saguaro Cactus. Barbara grew up in Barrington, Illinois, and has worked for many years as a calligrapher, illustrator, and teacher of book arts and botanical drawing. She now lives in upstate New York with her husband, Steve Gorn, and their son, Wiley. (Barbara traveled to India and Bali, as well as to the state of Florida, to study and sketch banyan trees. The photo above was taken on her research trip to Bali.)
