Andrea Davis Pinkney
1963 -Andrea Davis Pinkney grew up in the midst of the civil rights movement, in a family where equality and justice were deeply held beliefs. She is the author of numerous award-winning picture book biographies, on subjects ranging from black cowboy Bill Pickett to jazz master Duke Ellington. She has worked as an editor at Essence Magazine and is currently a children's book editor. She lives with her husband, illustrator Brian Pinkney, and their two children in Brooklyn.From the dust jacket of Let it Shine
